Informs Markham that his poems who were published in the school reader were put out by Scot, Foreman abd Co. of Chicago and New York and by William H. Elson, Superintendent of Schools. Thanks him once again for coming and talking about the poem "Lincoln."

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
